Faculty of drama arts is a leading high education institution in the field of theatre,
film, radio and television and is a part of the University or arts in Belgrade.
Thanks to the continuity of existence and creative 58 years of tradition, quality
education programs, eminent professors and high level of conditions for learning,
Faculty of Drama Arts represents eminent educational, artistic and cultural institution,
which is Financed by the government of the Republic of Serbia.
Aims of the faculty are: discovering and education of talents, preserving creative
and intellectual abilities of students, stimulating free expression of ideas and
entitlement to communication, development of artistic, theoretical, managerial and
culture disciplines, learning and improving throughout entire life. Because of that the
Faculty of drama arts has a leading role in the Region.
The faculty has two directions – theatre-radio and film-TV. There are also ten
departments, and those are: Acting, theatre and radio directing, Dramaturgy, Management
and production of theatres , radio and culture, Film and TV directing, Film and television
production, Camera, Film and TV editor, Film and television production , Camera, Film and
TV editing, Recording and design of sound and Theory and History. The faculty has the
Institute of theatre, film, radio television, founded in 1989, with the aim to stimulate
scientific-researching work in the field of arts, media and culture, as publishing
activities.
Along with basic and master studies, FDA organizes specialist and doctor studies in
the field of science of drama arts, culture and media. Studies have a form of lecturing,
seminars, creative workshops and project classes, with the cooperation of several
curriculums, in the field of Faculty of Drama arts and University of arts in Belgrade.
Faculty obtained numerous awards, and students with diplomas and professors have
international reputation in their fields of work.
New challenge in the following period (to 2010) is a continual work on reforming study
programs, development of new programs, and appliance of the system of credit (points),
that is, transmission of points (ESPB), promoting doctor studies from the field of arts.
FDA is a member of organizations such as: ELIA, ENKATK, SILEKT, and also cofounders of the
international review of Mediterranean theatre schools – MASLINA.
History
Academy of theatre arts was founded on 11 December 1948, and the classes began to work
on 12 February 1949. First professors of acting were Mata Milosevic and Jozo Laurencic,
their assistants were Miroslav Belovic, Stevo Zigon and Soja Jovanovic, and professors
of directing Bojan Stupica and dr Hugo Klajn. Dusan Matic was the director.
In accordance with the need to expand educational programs for the development of
medias, new study groups were founded, so that in 1962 the Academy of theatre arts
gets a new name – Academy of theatre, film, radio, and television, and by the end of
1973 it changes name into Faculty of drama arts (theatre, film, radio and television).
Diploma graduate students of the Academy and the Faculty of drama arts, in the past
period, with their creative engagements are active throughout the complete cultural-artistic
ambient of our environment. Faculty of drama arts is almost sixty years a high educational
institution, where criteria is being formed in fields of drama arts, schools that produced
most eminent creators has greatly contributed to development of a high level of Yugoslavian
and Serbian theatre, film, radio and TV. And today, when there are many school models, the
Faculty still glows with its magnetic attractiveness.
Institute of theatre, film, radio
and television
Institute of theatre, film, radio and television was founded in 1989, upon the initiative
of dr Dejan Kosanovic, professor on FDA, who also became the first director of the
institute.
Institute is a centre for stimulating scientific-researching activities in the field
of arts, media and culture. Activities of the institute cover: preparation of plans and
realization of scientific-researching projects, organization of scientific gatherings
and counseling, publishing activities etc.
The aims of the institute of theatre, film, radio, and television are to stimulate and
enable scientific, researching, and theoretical activities of professors and associates
of the Faculty of drama arts. Therefore, within the Institute are realized numerous long
term projects as well as smaller ones and individual scientific-researching
projects.
Facility capacities
Faculty building is specially designed building in Novi Beograd, of area of 10000 square
meters. It provides excellent conditions for work, research and practical activities.
On the Faculty there are special rooms for acting, directing, diction, sword training,
games and acrobatics, make up artists, tone studio, TV and photo studio, film studio,
rooms for editing of picture and sound, workshops for animated films, workshops for
computer graphics and animation, halls for projection (of films and other), phono and film
archives, classrooms for lecturing, cafeteria and a restaurant for students and
lecturers.
A large film hall with the capacity of 200 viewers, equipped Chambers stage with more
than 150 seats and Film and TV studio which provide quality conditions for education of
artists and experts in the field of theatre, film, radio and television.
